Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies have always been my favorite cookie that my mother made during the Christmas holiday season. She always made sure to make at least one favorite for each of us three kids in addition to some other family tradition holiday treats. For years after moving out of the house and after having children of my own, my mom and I would make cookies together. Even now we try to make at least a couple of types of cookies together along with my three children.

Crinkle Making

I am not very fond of cooking or baking. But I do put a well-balanced meal on the table every day and I do stop to spend time baking with my children, especially during the holiday season. The Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are one recipe they love to make and eat, and they are also fairly easy for children to participate in making!

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe:

Yield: approximately 6 dozen

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 sq. unsweetened chocolate (4 oz.), melted
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar

Directions:

  1. Mix oil, chocolate, and sugar.
  2. Blend in one egg at a time until well blended.
  3. Add vanilla.
  4. Stir in salt, flour, and baking powder.
  5. Chill several hours or overnight.
  6. Heat oven to 350°.
  7. Drop teaspoonfuls of dough into confectioners’ sugar. Roll around and shape into a ball.
  8. Place about 2″ apart on a greased baking sheet.
  9. Bake 8-10 minutes.

Then a few years ago, friends of ours who are vegan introduced us to a Vegan Chocolate Crinkle Cookie recipe. Much to our surprise (both mine and my mother’s), we like the vegan recipe better! But no matter which recipe you choose, then fun of making them together–and eating them together–is still the same!

Her house is filled up with her loving husband of 15 years, 3 busy children, & 2 dogs (Muffin & Oscar). Homeschooling started out as a trial run with a child beginning 2nd grade, & 8 years later has become a lifestyle which brings great joy. You can often find her behind her camera, or working something out in Photoshop. Since beginning this homeschool journey she is learning to knit, crochet, & even to quilt! Her love of reading was passed on to her children & can be seen in the numerous book reviews she writes on her blog.
