This is for all you fellow homeschoolers that currently, at one time, or in your future will ever think these words: Scheduling drives me crazy!!!
I just had to say it. I have done it my entire homeschool teaching career: schedule. But I am now at a point where it was literally making me looney. M, our middle child, best illustrates my feelings in this photo:
I guess I had to come to the realization that what we had done in the past, was not going to work in our “new season” of life. I am okay with that. As the scripture so pointedly says in Matthew 9:17:
“Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”
So, rather than walk around trying to pour the “old wine” into my new wineskin, I have decided to submit my “old” wine/ways to the Lord and get on with the new! By nature I am a very organized a systematical person. This as you know can be both good AND bad. I have also submitted this again to the Lord and as usual, He has answered me
We are awaiting our new scheduling system that can be found in the book: Managers Of Their Homes. This book has been recommended by countless fellow homeschoolers and stay-at-home mothers of large families. Even the Duggar family uses this system! Although we are not a “large” family – we do have 3 children who are doing “school” and that can get a bit hairy at times. In addition to scheduling our schooling, we will be able to work in chores, field trips, down time, prayer, meals, and anything else we desire. One thing that has thrown me off is the new home we have been blessed with in Germany. Here is our staircase – so you can imagine all the house that comes with this:
Four stories of pure cleaning bliss. All tile and wood floors with 10 foot glass windows all over the place. A 2-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, a large Standard Poodle, a 10-year-old girl, and my precious husband all lurk in this place leaving their own “marks” behind Needless to say, with both the boys at a level where they are being homeschooled, an overseas move (if you have never done this, it throws your world upside down as you know it), and a fabulous open-so-the-dust-can-fly-everywhere staircase – oh yeah – and the year long deployment we are just beginning….this all BEGS for new systematic scheduling to instill peace and order again! So grateful for families like the Maxwell’s that have gone ahead and charted the way for us!
So if you have ever found yourself in my predicament, there is HOPE I’d LOVE to hear what scheduling/organizational systems you use! Shoot me an email or leave me a comment below.
Pray for me as I pray for you,
