Our family’s version of Magic Bars was dubbed “Miracle Bars” by our church family in Spain who proclaimed they had never tasted anything so delicious. They were quite disappointed to find out that our secret ingredient (caramels) isn’t sold in Spain. I guess they eased their pain by carrying off an entire pan full of the cookie bars after our yearly Thanksgiving feast. Thankfully, we had made several pans full, anticipating the popularity of the ooey-gooey goodness!
Ooey-Gooey Magic Bars
1 package graham crackers, crushed
1 stick butter, melted
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup milk chocolate chips
1 cup caramels, cut into fourths
2 cups shredded coconut
1 cup pecan pieces
Mix graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Press into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Pour sweetened condensed milk over graham cracker crust. Sprinkle with the remaining 4 ingredients. Press down slightly. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until caramel is melted and bubbly.
