Dutch Chocolate Buttermilk Cupcakes With Whipped Frosting

I think my children’s favorite class in our homeschool has to be: Scratch Baking 101.  I must say that it is probably one of my most favorite classes to teach as well. I really like to “grade” (taste) the homework – it is a rough job, but one this teacher is up for. In our Scratch Baking 101 we cover a bit of Home Economics, science, math, and photography! It is a FUN, FUN, class, one I’m sure you’d enjoy should you ever visit our family.

Our Dutch Chocolate Buttermilk Cupcakes With Whipped Frosting!

Today the children and I made some FABULOUS Dutch Chocolate Buttermilk Cupcakes and paired it with some light and fluffy whipped frosting!  I was experimenting with the frosting as I don’t like to use TONS of powdered sugar for frosting. And I must say that my little “science” experiment used very little sugar (only 1 cup as opposed to 8-10 cups) and was divine. It was a great day in our Scratch Baking 101 class! Here are a few photos of our wonderful creations.

The whipped frosting BEFORE it turned yellow.

Look at the beautiful rich Dutch chocolate color!

One VERY HAPPY student!

What are some of your favorite things to bake as a family? I’d love to hear about it – leave a comment and let me know! Happy baking!

I am salivating looking at these pictures! We mostly bake cookies – I make about 10 kinds for Christmas every year, and a few more throughout the year.

Jen, if we were neighbors, I’d tell you to come on over and take some home for you and your precious family :) I LOVE making Christmas cookies….there is something very nostalgic about it, don’t you think?
