3 Reasons Not to Read Trim Healthy Mama

Many of you have heard about the popular new book Trim Healthy Mama. And if you haven’t, I am excited to introduce it to you today. I had to find out what all the fuss was about for myself, and I am glad I did. The authors graciously offered me a free copy for review and one to give away to my precious readers (that’d be YOU). Okay, let’s get on with it.

3 Reasons Not to Read Trim Healthy Mama

1. You are not interested in improving your health. Let’s face it, everyone who has made it into adulthood understands that if we are not intentional about having good health, then we won’t have it. And with today’s world being so focused on money, it’s no wonder many of the “foods” readily available for purchase at the grocery store are not actually food at all.

One of the things that I really enjoy about this book is how Pearl and Serene give lots of science behind their way of thinking. For me, with one of my degrees being in Food Science and Nutrition, I need to know the science behind the school of thought when it comes to “diet.” This book tied together many concepts that I already knew through very realistic examples – yet presented it in a way that I made me think differently than just the plain “facts” in my head. So for those of you out there who, like me, want to know the facts – I believe this book will not disappoint.

2. You have a problem with healthy weight loss and/or maintaining a healthy body weight. Because if you do, then this book is not for you. However, if you are in agreement that healthy weight loss and maintaining a healthy body weight is a good thing, then I would urge you to give the concepts in Trim Healthy Mama a try. While I don’t follow THM to the “t” so-t0-speak, I do agree with mostly everything that I’ve read and think that anyone who gives this a real try will find nothing but success.

3. You don’t like eating dessert. Haha. I’m just kidding. Kind of. In this book there are a lot of amazing recipes for some downright delicious desserts. Now for me, this was a BIGGIE. Not only do I love eating deserts (specifically chocolate ones), I also really really enjoy making them. As a matter of fact, my husband and I will likely own a dessert shoppe or bakery in the years ahead (can’t right now due to being active duty military). So if you don’t like eating dessert, then Trim Healthy Mama is NOT the book for you. However, if recipes like Skinny Chocolate, Tummy Tucking Ice Cream, Cheesecake, Chocolate Dipped Cream Pops, Frozen Yogurt, or Cake in a Mug sound even remotely interesting to you, then I assure you, you’ll love the Trim Healthy Mama way of eating!

Overall, I am really enjoying this book. I have read and reread several of the sections, specifically the “Gain The Knowledge.” Even though none of the information is “new” to me, the way it was presented is. And I like that! I love how practical these ladies make healthy eating. And I also love the way they present the science in a very non-threatening and easy-to-understand manner.

A Word Of Caution

Don’t get overwhelmed. It would be easy to try and dive in and stress yourself (and your family) out over this new and exciting way to see food. However, I’d advise you to take it one day at a time. Add in your new understanding of food little by little. Permanent change is always gradual and more peaceful as well. If you are already on this journey or if you are thinking about starting it, I’m excited for you!

    Have tried cauliflower casserole….incredible.. Until now I refused to eat cauliflower, im 49 years old…lots of recipies I will be trying… Thank you Miss Pearle….Miss Serena.

    I really need this book. My parents are on the plan, and dropping the pounds. I have learned a little, and lost about 10 pounds just by listening to how they eat. But I’m tired of just eating salads, and a peice of grilled meat. Due to not having the recipes. My husband thinks its a fad, and does not want me to buy the book. But everything my dad cooks out of the book, I LOVE. I would feel truly blessed, to win this book!!

    Thank you so much for doing this review & giving away a book. I have a few friends who have read the book & are now doing the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle. I have had a problem off & on my whole life with my weight. I was a vegetarian & juiced for a year & a half but that was not a lifelong “diet” so I went back to eating regularly & the weight came back on. I had been food journaling & was on my way back to eating well & getting healthier when my dad died suddenly & unexpectantly of a mini stroke. His death was very sudden & he was only 56 & had been very healthy & active my whole life until the year before he died, he had some health issues & we had been seeing specialist, doctors & everything in betweem to try & figure out what was going on. I was a Daddy’s girl & took his death very hard & my weight has suffered from that. I desire to get healthy again. I have the Trim Healthy Momma book currently from the library. It has been great to read the parts I have gotten through but has been a challenge because everything I think is important I am handwriting into a notebook because I financially can’t afford to purchase the book (I lost my job in November 2012 & have not been able to find work in the small town I work in).
