Welcome to the NEW home of The Homeschool Mother’s Journal! I am so pleased that you are with us today! If you are not familiar with the journal writing prompts and guidelines, please see this post.

New Linkup Day

One change you may have noticed right away is that the new linkup is Saturday through Tuesday. I decided to make this change to give you moms a chance to finish out your week and reflect on your thoughts. I hope this idea sits well with you!

New Feature

Each week I will choose 1-3 posts to highlight the following week. It will be at random and hope that can help make this community even more fun!

Here are this weeks chosen post to highlight:

If you haven’t already, be sure to visit Rebecca’s entry from last week over at Raventhreads. She shares some fun stuff that her family did while daddy was off during the long weekend.

Welcome Today’s Guest!

Today we are featuring Heather from On Faith and Coffee.

In my life this week…

Before

Hubby and I built a swingset for the boys! Apart from a small error in reading the blueprints which led us to incorrectly mounting the joists for the treehouse floor…

then drilling holes into the floorboards (because the existing ones were “in the wrong place”)…

then (finally) realizing we had incorrectly mounted the joists – AFTER screwing in all the floor boards…

and having to un-screw all of the floorboards, move the joists and then put it all back together with the screws in the holes that were originally drilled for them…

and the thunderstorm in the middle of construction…

and Hubby’s concussion…

It was pretty fun! :) In the end it turned out beautiful and the boys love it, so that is definitely a win!

After!

In our homeschool this week…

Billy finished Section 1 of our Math Curriculum. It is first grade level math and I am super proud of him. We also did some Reading and a couple other lessons, but in general we are keeping it pretty light.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

I had a lovely mom on my facebook page ask recently about what schedules I and the other follower used and what we thought would be a good schedule for a 3 and 5 year old.

I have tried writing out a very detailed schedule; I have tried scheduling nothing. I have tried timers; they all have had a season.

My tip to you is, figure out the natural rhythms of your household, and start shaping those rhythms into a “schedule” – but be ready for “real life” to happen and for that schedule that is “perfect” one day may be a complete flop the next.

Our kids are constantly growing and changing and sometimes we, as parents, just need to be ready to throw today’s schedule out the window and create a new one for tomorrow.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We are going to take a trip to the zoo! Going to a zoo for Billy’s Birthday has become a tradition. We’ve only missed two years: one when it was raining so we went to the Science Center instead and one year where we were at Disney World!

My favorite thing this week was…

Tie between my boys taking me out to Cracker Barrel (my favorite breakfast!) and watching the boys play so nicely together on the swingset. Such precious moments that I want to hang on to forever. It seems so surreal that Billy, my first little baby, is going to be 6 already. I don’t want to let time slip by without being intentional to enjoy every moment.

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…

Getting a playground in their own backyard!

Things I’m working on…

Oh so much, but it is such a blessing! I actually started organizing an editorial calendar for the blog (I’ve tried a couple times since 2:1 but it’s gotten so crossed out and re-written that I needed a fresh start).

I’m cooking…

I actually cooked a whole chicken last night! This is not something I ususally do; hubby is really the cook (which was apparant when I was told I cooked the chicken upside-down!). It turned out good anyway, and hubby made a truly awesome gravy from the drippings. YUM!

I wish I had gotten a picture of my upside down chicken for you, but hubby didn’t tell me until after he was carving it. Still pretty funny. :)

I’m grateful for…

A husband who knows how to build and fix things (and knows which side of the chicken is “up”!)

I’m praying for…

A dream project that God has placed in my heart. I want do it and do it well, but it is a bit scary. I am not equipped, so I am covering this dream over and over again in prayers – when it is done, to Him will be all the glory.

I rewarded my kids this week by…

Taking Billy with me to the grocery store and letting him pick out the ice cream.

Sometimes it’s just the simplest things that make wonderful memories. This past week it was agreed that we needed dessert. I agreed to take Billy with me to the grocery store to get ice cream. This is a special treat because I usually perfer to go alone.

Even though he knew we were going for ice cream, Billy was stuck on Oreo’s. As I was searching through the Breyer’s guess what should we saw: Breyer’s Oreo Cookies and Cream Ice Cream! Billy got so excited “Mom! That’s a GREAT idea!” His big eyes and smile made my day!

Something I am ogling or have my eye on…

I feel so blessed to have some reviews coming up of really awesome products, that I feel silly “ogling” anything! Hubby and I are, however, starting to make plans for our future trip to Disney! Until we can live in Florida, a vacation there will have to do :)

A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…
