Power Over Fear {Part 1}

We’ve all been there. We’ve all wandered down it’s taunting path. We’ve all felt the effects of it’s unwanted presence. Someway, somehow. What is this “thing” I am speaking of?

Fear. Fear of rejection. Fear of failure. Fear of being alone. Fear of dying. And the list goes on and on.

Fear is the enemies biggest deception and greatest weapon of division in the body of Christ. But I have news for fear, IT IS NOT WANTED HERE NOR IS IT WELCOME! When I began to understand God’s power of protection – it changed my entire outlook and focus in life. Let me show you what I mean. {All the scripture quoted below is taken out of Psalm 91 (Amplifed)}

1HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

This verse gave me the ability to see how important spending time with our Father is. How important prayer is. How important it is to be a “doer” of the word and not just a hearer, talker, or reader of it. Notice how the verse says HE WHO DWELLS in the SECRET PLACE. That secret place cannot be found in church, in your husband, nor in your children. It can only be found through a personal and intimate relationship with God Himself. Period. That is why it is secret, it is to be found and discovered by YOU. Once we find it we must choose to dwell in it. Dwell as defined by dictionary.com says: to live or stay as a permanent resident; reside. And believe me, once you dwell in His presence, it will be YOUR pleasure! And while we are WITH HIM in the secret place, we are also SAFE FROM ALL HARM as NO FOE can withstand HIS power!

2I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! 3For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4[Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

What is coming out of your mouth? What thoughts are you meditating on? Are you saying that HE ALONE is your refuge? Your fortress? If not, then you are not allowing yourself to be in a position to receive His promise of protection. Even at times when I don’t feel like relying and confidently trusting in God, I still speak and confess that I DO. No one on this Earth will ever be able to say that they have it all together, BUT, one thing we can do is SPEAK His promises into existence in our lives. I am so grateful that for simply obeying His Word and speaking it by faith – He COVERS me and allows me to be in a place that THAT NO FOE CAN WITHSTAND THE POWER OF!

5You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day. 6Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.

What is beautiful about this Psalm is the simple fact that IF WE dwell with God – make it our first priority to be with HIM, then we are assured to not be afraid of ANYTHING. God promises us that no matter what comes our way – that we shall not be afraid! That is an amazing thing once you allow HIM to be your protection and no longer rely on natural things. It is imperative to understand that as believers of Jesus Christ, that what is seen is temporary, but what is UNSEEN is eternal. In other words, there is a lot more going on around us than “meets the eye” therefore it is very important that we dwell with God in His Word and in prayer so He can show us what to do in order to walk in His safety on a daily basis! What a blessing to know that HE ALONE IS OUR PROTECTION!! God NEVER fails!

7A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. 8Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.
All I can say about this is WOW! What a peace I have found in understanding that NO MATTER WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND ME – I am INACCESSIBLE in the secret place of the MOST HIGH GOD! In my own life and the lives of my immediate family members, I have witnessed this promise be true time and time again.I have seen the world seemingly fall down around us, but our family was virtually unaffected. I have seen sickness, death, disease, bankruptcy (monetarily and spiritually), violence, and any other calamatiy that this world offers go on everywhere….but because we have CHOSEN (YES, it is a choice) to dwell in the secret place of the Most High God, we have seen it come to pass that we are inaccessible by these things.

TO BE CONTINUED…

If you are facing fear of any kind….I encourage you to make the reading AND confession (speaking aloud) of Psalm 91 a part of your daily life. Jesus is more than real and he LOVES you in a way that you cannot even imagine. Start with the basics and build up…you will see your place in the promise of God’s protection!

    Thank you for a reminder of this incredible Psalm and for your words on it. Today I plan on putting a marker so that I remember to go to this Psalm . . . for fear is one of my most difficult things to deal with.
