Baking & Letters With Prince Charming – Special Mommy & Son Time

“Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.”
~Psalm 127:3

Every week I designate a day that I spend “special” time alone with each child doing something at home together. While daddy is deployed, this is the best solution I could find that I am able to stick to – and I must say, it is working. It is a big hit with the children and today was Prince Charming’s turn!

I asked Prince Charming what he wanted to do with me today to which he replied, “Baking and letters!” I had some baking to do anyhow, so that fit in nicely; but letters? What to do? I asked Prince Charming if he’d like to help me make and bake shortbread and chocolate chip cookies. Needless to say, he was up for the challenge! Then he told me that he wanted to make up some letter “games” to play with me. So we did just that.

Often times I hear parents tell me they are “failing” their children because they are not taking them on extravagant trips or their not able to take an entire day to dedicate to each child alone. I have found that none of that is necessary for your child to feel special AND loved. If you are able to just take a small task – for instance baking – and do it with one of your children – it will mean the WORLD to them. They just want our attention and affection to be set upon them – nothing more – nothing less. Believe it or not, YOU and your time ALONE is what your child really desires!

Get creative and enjoy!! YOU CAN DO IT :)

Here are a few photos of our precious time together earlier today!

Prince Charming is all smiles

All 5 of our initials - he and daddy have the same one!

Looks like he forgot he is supposed to be pulsing the dough!

He remembered!

oh my gosh…he is so stinking cute. If you don't mind me asking, where were the other kids? Is this something you do completely alone or do they just give you some time with him and play elsewhere in the house?

Great questions Savannah! The other children {that are not having their special day} are always somewhere else in the house doing something fun too. Yesterday Little Caveman was watching 101 Dalmations and Princess was practicing gymnastics. Because they each value this concept, they respect the time that I spend alone with their sibling. I am so grateful that this has been birthed – in the comfort of our own home – it has been an amazing blessing to our family :) And I agree, he is stinkin' cute :) Thanks for stopping by!

Great idea!! I always struggle with having one on one time with my boys because it's just me. But I'm going to start finding something to do at home with them and start training them to respect that time for each other. THANKS!
